NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day - Preview

Glamorgan reached their first finals day since 2004 after defeating Leicestershire Foxes by nine wickets in the quarter-finals last week.

Craig Meschede recorded figures of 3-17 from his four overs as Leicestershire were all out for 123, before South African duo Colin Ingram (70*) and Jacques Rudolph (46*) guided the welsh county to a comfortable victory.

Glamorgan now face 2014 winners Birmingham Bears in the first semi-final at Edgbaston on Saturday, before Hampshire take on Notts Outlaws in the second semi-final.

Despite being the underdogs heading into the weekend, Glamorgan will be buoyed by the fact that they topped the South Group ahead of the likes of Surrey and Hampshire in order to reach the last eight.

Quarter-final match-winner Ingram has been a pillar of consistency throughout the competition, scoring 451 runs at an average of 50.11, including two centuries.

His compatriot Rudolph has weighed in with three half-centuries whilst promising young batsman Aneurin Donald has scored 273 runs. The trio could hold the key to Glamorgan upsetting the odds against Birmingham.

With the ball, it has been two more overseas players who have been vital to Glamorgan’s progress. Australian Michael Hogan (18 wickets) and South Africa’s Merchant de Lange (16 wickets) will fancy their chances of limiting the opposition’s total this weekend.

Birmingham reached finals day at their home ground by beating Surrey at The Oval last week, courtesy of Grant Elliott’s unbeaten 59. Glamorgan’s batsmen will be coming up against a strong attack including the fit-again Olly Stone and the experienced Jeetan Patel.
