Hampshire - Natwest T20 Blast

Two-time winners Hampshire are back in NatWest T20 Blast action this July and they will begin the competition with high hopes of silverware.

Last year saw a surprise group-stage elimination for Hampshire, on the back of a record six successive finals day appearances.

But the belief within cricket is that last year was just a blip, and Craig White’s men will once again be in the reckoning during the latter stages of the competition this time around.

The Hampshire squad is packed full of talented limited-overs players, and with Pakistan T20 specialist Shahid Afridi joining Australia batsman George Bailey as part of the overseas allowance, there is certainly firepower in the middle-order.

England internationals James Vince and Michael Carberry will take most of the responsibility at the top of the order, whilst all-rounder Liam Dawson, leg-spinner Mason Crane and seam bowler Reece Topley should prove a threat following their exposure on the world stage for England in recent times.

The arrival of big-hitting batsman Rilee Rossouw and fast-bowler Kyle Abbott on Kolpak deals represents one of the shrewdest pieces of business in county cricket, and the South African duo will further enhance Hampshire’s chances of T20 glory this summer.

Hampshire look well set in the Specsavers County Championship with three wins from seven matches propelling them to fourth in Division One, but their chances of silverware in the shorter formats is limited to the NatWest T20 Blast after an early exit from the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Hampshire begin their campaign with successive away trips to Glamorgan and Sussex, before their first home game against Middlesex on Friday 14th July.
