Glamorgan reached Finals Day of the NatWest T20 Blast after impressively finishing top of a South Group which included the likes of Surrey, Hampshire and County Championship winners Essex.
A nine-wicket victory over Leicestershire in the Quarter-Finals meant that the welsh county reached the last four for the first time since 2004.
The journey to Edgbaston saw a series of consistent performances from several experienced players including South African duo Jacques Rudolph and Colin Ingram, who together contributed over 900 runs.
Ingram was one of only three players in the whole competition to score two centuries, whilst Rudolph weighed in with four half-centuries of his own.
The seam trio of Michael Hogan, Marchant de Lange and Craig Meschede were all mightily impressive with the ball throughout the summer. A combined total of 48 wickets was key to Glamorgan’s progress to the last four.
Their run came to an end in the semi-finals as Birmingham Bears won by 11 runs to advance to the final, but the foundations have been laid in 2017 and there is no reason why Glamorgan can’t be amongst the contenders for the NatWest T20 Blast next year.
The Royal London One-Day Cup saw Glamorgan show more positive signs for future campaigns, but four wins from eight games wasn’t quite enough to reach the knockout stages in the new format.
Previously the top four would have progressed from each group, but a fourth-placed finish this time meant that Glamorgan missed out. One more victory would have been enough to leapfrog Surrey and progress to the next stage of the competition.
The challenge in 2018 will be for Glamorgan to replicate their white-ball performances in the longer format.
Glamorgan finished seventh in the Specsavers County Championship and they will look to turn more draws into matches to narrow the gap between themselves and the promotion places next season.
