Durham - Natwest T20 Blast

Durham Jets are back in NatWest T20 Blast action this July as they aim to go one better after reaching the final in last year's competition.

The chances of a successful season were already limited to the two shorter formats of the game, after they were handed a 48-point deduction due to several financial issues before a ball was bowled this season.

One win from seven games in the County Championship has added to the task that they face in aiming to achieve a respectable finish from their first season back in the second tier.

Despite the loss of key players such as Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick to Surrey over the winter, Durham showed promise in the Royal London One-Day Cup as they won four of their eight group games in the 50-over competition.

But a two-point deduction, again following the well-documented issues at the end of 2016, meant that Durham finished outside of the top four and a quarter-final spot.

Their quest for NatWest T20 Blast glory will commence with a four-point deduction, but with the likes of England stars Ben Stokes and Mark Wood in their ranks, Durham will be hopeful of stringing together a run of results.

Their impact could be hindered by their international responsibilities, so much will rely on the experience of former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood, who averaged 74.67 with the bat in the Royal London One-Day Cup, and seamer Chris Rushworth who is always a threat in the shorter format.

The arrival of New Zealand’s Tom Latham arrival will boost a batting line-up that also includes recent England Test debutant Keaton Jennings.

Durham begin their campaign with three consecutive home games against 2015 winners Lancashire Lightning, reigning champions Northamptonshire Steelbacks and three-time winners Leicestershire Foxes.
